One of the best Young Bleed traxx ever!!!
I remember when this video used to get run on Rap City EVERYDAY back in 2000. It was hard to believe the video was added into rotation given that, in the height of big budget rap videos and hip-hop opulence, Bleed was trying to compete with something that looked like it was shot with a god damned handy cam. It was so bad that it kind of made me uncomfortable. Never a ball of charisma, Bleed’s completely awkward throughout the video, and looks worse than most of these Chicago d-boy turnt rapper clips I see on a daily basis. This video isn’t so much out of place in straight-to-YouTube 2011, but in 2000, it was alien on BET. Bleed was fresh off a gold No Limit album at the time, and was returning with My Own, a project he put together without the help of P or his actual label head C-Loc. The album was cool, but it couldn’t hold a candle to My Balls & My Word, which is hands down one of the best No Limit albums, and a certified classic in my book.
Don’t get me wrong, I quietly loved the video (gritty!), but for a guy that was rooting for Bleed to make it without the help of Percy, I definitely saw this as the end. After My Own, Bleed kinda faded into obscurity, before linking up with C-Bo in 2005 to release a couple of albums. It was never the same for me.
*My favorite part of the video begins at 1:37 with the in-the-car shot, which clearly still has bug juice on the windshield. BUDGET!
